Working Project title: “Immersia” / Interactive Book Experience
#
Project Overview: This project aims to create an interactive interpretation of a children’s book targeted to parents to extend their involvement in their children’s learning. This allows the narrative/backstory of the book to appeal not only to the children, but also to adults—bringing them back to a childlike curiosity through the interaction. The environment, various emotions/moods/tones/atmosphere will be visualized and experienced using visual elements (video), audio (midi), live interaction (gestural movements or shadows or distance sensors).
#
Project Goals and Objectives: To develop children’s learning and generate interest from a new and older audience; To enhance the involvement of the parents to their children’s learning process; To immerse the audience into an environment that provokes an emotional response that helps the book come to life; To provide an enjoyable storytelling experience for the parents.
#
Audience: Parents and young children (toddlers, ages 3+)
#
Content requirements: To allow for maximum “immersion” experience, this installation needs to be realized at a larger scale: possibly a triptych of screens (3 screens), or a series of screens arranged in a circular space.
#
Content sources: Content will be generated from an existing children’s book. Some that I’ve been looking at: Dr Seuss’ Many Colored Days, Dr. Seuss’ Shape of Me and Other Things, J. Curtis’ Big Words for little People; J. Modesitt’s Sometimes I Feel Like A Mouse: A Book About Feelings.
#
Delivery physical environment: Areas where parents and children could spend time learning; Possibly inside a cafe, bookstore, library lounge, waiting rooms (pediatrician, dentist) / Sick Kids’ hospital, nursery
