Creative Brief

Title

10 Famous words

Overview

The concept for this project is to hand out a survey to 100 people (ages 10/teens, 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s…) and ask about 10 words that they would like to share to the world. They would only be given 10 minutes to fill out the survey. The goal is to communicate the following:

  • immediacy of time
  • relevance of legacy
  • impact of words
  • difference in perspective as we mature

Audience

The final product, though not limited to, is geared towards people from ages 20 to 35.

Key Message

Because the initial input is in the form of a survey, the message of the piece is still a bit vague as the feedback would be the defining factor that would give the piece its direction. But it would be interesting to know whether or not there is much difference in how we think as we get older, how different it is, do we gain or lose something as we acquire more knowledge, the commonalities of what people feel is important to be communicated to the world, are we a self-centered society or one who is culturally aware?, have we actually lost our ‘innocence’? what is most important per generation?

Content Planning/Strategy

I am planning to use the actual handwriting of the people who filled out the survey. This gives the piece a bit more humanity and adds a more personal dimension to it. I wanted to retain the formal qualities of pencil marks as well as the mistakes and doodles people make almost unconsciously. (By doing this one can also notice how much more playful younger people are, for example.)

Inspiration

OCAD EMDes – I love the layering of this piece and how type is treated as if suspended on a 3d space.
